Cannot connect through a DSL or cable line to a pcAnywhere host using the same service provider

Situation:
You want to connect to a pcAnywhere host that is using a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or Cable Internet provided by the same Internet Service Provider (ISP) as you are using. When you try to connect, the connection times out.

Solution:
Some DSL and cable providers specifically disallow the use of remote control software within their network, as this is deemed a security risk This has been confirmed as a concern with Pacbell and may be the case with others ISPs as well. Please contact the ISP to confirm that this is the problem.

Note: A design change in the America Online (AOL) version 6.0 and later software restricts the use of pcAnywhere as a Host. You can use pcAnywhere with AOL 6.0 or later for remote connections only.

Because pcAnywhere can be disabled by blocking the use of certain IP ports, you may be able to use pcAnywhere by changing the ports it uses. Refer to the following documents for more information on changing pcAnywhere IP ports:

pcAnywhere 9.x and earlier - How to change the pcAnywhere 9.x IP ports

Because access to particular IP ports is controlled by the ISP, this problem is beyond Symantec's capacity to resolve.
