Poor performance when using a 3Com 905b NIC set at 100 megabits

Question/Issue:
When you use Ghost or Ghost Multicast on a network with the network interface card set to 100 megabits, the transfer speed seems to be too slow. If you change the settings to 10 megabits, the performance improves. You are using a 3C905b network interface card (NIC) that is set to 100 megabits.

Solution:
To resolve the problem, update the NIC driver to the latest version and set the NIC to run in half-duplex mode.

To set the card to half-duplex mode

  1. Download the latest driver for the 3C90X series cards from the 3Com 3c905b driver download page.
The latest drivers include a 3Com configuration utility. The configuration utility is also available from the South Plains College FTP site.
  2. Reset the Media Type from "Auto" to "100 MB."
  3. Use the 3Com configuration utility to set the duplex mode of the card with the following command line at a DOS prompt:

    3C90XCFG.EXE CO /FULLDUPLEX:DISABLED
