Error: "Norton SystemWorks has encountered an internal error. . ."
Situation:
After installing Norton SystemWorks 2004, you see one of the following error messages:
Error: "Norton SystemWorks has encountered an internal error. Please uninstall and reinstall Norton SystemWorks."
Error: "Norton SystemWorks has encountered an internal error. Please reinstall Norton SystemWorks."
Solution:
This problem has more than one possible cause, so no one solution will work in every case. To fix this problem, start with the first section, "Registering Wintrust.dll with Windows," and follow the instructions from there.
Registering Wintrust.dll with Windows
This problem can be caused if Wintrust.dll is not registered correctly with Windows. If you are using Windows NT/2000/XP, then this procedure should be done while logged in as Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights. To register Wintrust.dll with Windows, perform the following procedure.
To register Wintrust.dll with Windows
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
- In the Open box, type the following text:
Regsvr32 wintrust.dll
- Press Enter.
- Click OK.
- Reinstall Norton SystemWorks.

Repairing or upgrading to Internet Explorer 6.0

To repair Internet Explorer 6.0 in Windows 98 or Windows Me
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
- Click Add/Remove programs.
- Click Internet Explorer 6.0 to select it.
- Click Add/Remove or Change/Remove.
- Select Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
- If prompted, restart your computer.
- Reinstall Norton SystemWorks.
