Protecting your computer against adware, spyware, and other security risks with Norton Internet Security
Norton Internet Security 2004 and later versions detect a variety of security risks. A security risk is an application or software-based executable that is either independent of or interdependent on another software program. It also meets one or more of the following criteria:
- It is considered to be non-viral in nature (it does not spread on its own by using a virus-like mechanism) yet it conforms, in a significant way to the general definition of a category of a security risk category.
- It has been submitted to Symantec by a critical number of corporate or individual users within a given time frame. The time frame and number may vary by category and by risk.
- It can be shown to create a general nuisance that is related to one of the specified risk categories, or it exhibits behavior that is as yet undefined under a broader category of security risk.
The easiest way to protect your computer from security risks is to remember to do the following things:
- Run frequent full system scans of your hard drive.
- Verify that your virus definitions are up to date.
- Manually remove any security risks when they are found.
Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware and later versions are designed to provide real-time detection and automatic removal of security risks from users' computers. They prevent new spyware risks from impacting the computer in the future. Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware is only supported on computers that run Windows XP/2000.
