Symantec AntiVirus 4.x for NetApp Filers requires a license file in order to be activated. Please see below for instructions on how to obtain and install a license file.

To license your product, you must first register with Symantec. After registering with Symantec, a license file will be emailed to you. License files are digitally signed, so any attempts to edit a license file will result in corruption of the file and render it invalid.

Obtaining a license file

Follow the steps in this section to register with Symantec and download a license file.

You will need the following information for registration:

• Symantec Serial Number, which is printed on the Symantec Value License (Certificate).
• Contact details of your technical support contact (Network Administrator).
• Email address to receive the license key.

1. Navigate to the Licensing Portal at http://licensing.symantec.com.
2. Log on to the Licensing Portal.
3. Click License Management.

The License Management application offers a variety of functions that enable flexible management of Symantec Entitlements and related License Keys. This application is used primarily to obtain License Keys. There are three (3) steps to get a License Key:

1. ADD an Entitlement to your portal account
2. REGISTER your Entitlement to get a License Key
3. RECEIVE your License Keys via email

Note: Symantec's licensing tool compresses or "zips" license files to make them smaller and quicker to download. These "zipped" files are not self-extracting, and require third-party software such as WinZip or PKZip to open. If you are unsure whether you need zip utility software, visit the WinZip or PKZip Web sites to download an evaluation copy. To install the license file:

1. You must install the license file for Symantec AntiVirus 4.x for NetApp Filers though the Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine user interface. To open the Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine user interface, point a Web browser to: http://<address>:8004/. The <address> portion in the URL is the name or IP address of the server on which the Scan Engine was installed.
2. Click Licensing
3. Click Install
4. Click Browse
5. Navigate to the location where you saved or detached your license file. Double click to open the file
6. Click Confirm Changes
7. Click Continue

If the license was installed successfully, clicking Continue returns you to the Status tab so that you can verify the updated license status. If the license did not install, clicking Continue returns you to the Install tab so that you can attempt the installation again.
