This document tells how to apply Symantec Client Security 2.0 and Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 Maintenance Release 6 Maintenance Patch 1.




Solution:
Before you begin:
With the use of this patch, you can upgrade only those computers that run Symantec Client Security 2.0.6 or Symantec AntiVirus 9.0.6.

The Client Remote tool runs on Windows 2003/XP/2000. The tool is not supported on Windows 98/NT.

Patches for Symantec Client Security and Symantec AntiVirus typically solve only a certain set of problems. Apply the patch

You can apply the patch locally to an individual computer. You can also deploy the patch remotely to computers than run Windows 2003/XP/2000 by using the Client Remote tool.

WARNING: You cannot uninstall the patch once it is installed on your clients and servers. If you need to remove the patch, you must first uninstall the Symantec Client Security client or server, then reinstall the previous Symantec software that does not contain the patch. To avoid this scenario, before you deploy the patch, you should install the patch in a test environment and confirm that the patch does not interfere with the normal operation of your computers and network.



To apply the patch locally


Note: Symantec Client Security and Symantec AntiVirus patches require that you restart the computer. Symantec recommends that you allow for this restart because Symantec AntiVirus is disabled until the computer restarts.



To deploy a patch remotely by using the Client Remote tool


Note: The Client Remote tool runs on Windows 2003/XP/2000. The tool is not supported on Windows 98/NT.



To edit the Vpremote.dat file in order to prevent automatic restart
