You receive suspicious email that appears to be from Symantec

Question/Issue:
You receive email that appears to be from Symantec. The content of the messages and the attachments associated with the respective messages varies, but the general subject of the messages indicates that there is an available update or upgrade to Symantec products.

Solution:
Symantec does not send unsolicited email. In addition, with the exception of individual contact with Symantec Technical Support or Symantec Security Response, Symantec does not send email with file attachments.

Some virus writers try to fool users by sending messages that appear to come from a trusted source. If you receive an unexpected message from Symantec with an attachment, either delete it without opening it or scan it with your antivirus product. If your antivirus product does not detect a known threat, submit the attachment to Symantec Security Response. For instructions, read the document How to submit a file to Symantec Security Response using Scan and Deliver.
