Question/Issue:
How to configure Group Update Provider (GUP) bandwidth throttling introduced in SEP 11.0 MR4?


Solution:
Instructions for changing the throttling of GUP downloads from the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

1. Click Start > Run
   
   
2. Type regedit and click OK
   
   
3. Navigate to:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\LiveUpdate
   
   
4. Right-click the LiveUpdate key, highlight New, and select DWORD Value
   
   
5. Type MasterClientReadThrottleDelay and hit Enter
   
   
6. Right-click MasterClientReadThrottleDelay and click Modify
   
   
7. Change the value to 00001000 (This is in Milliseconds) and click OK
   
   
8. Right-click the LiveUpdate key, highlight New, and select DWORD Value
   
   
9. Type MasterClientReadThrottleBufferSize and hit Enter
   
   
10. Right-click MasterClientReadThrottleBufferSize and click Modify
    
    
11. Change the value to 00001024 (This is in Bytes) and click OK
    
    In this example, it would transfer 1kb every second.
    If the delay is zero, the buffer size is ignored, leaving it at the default 64k. If there is a delay the default buffer size is 1024, or whatever size the user specified.
