Error: "You have insufficient permission to access this application" with Symantec Mail Security 5.x or 6.x for Microsoft Exchange
Symptoms:
When you try to use the local console for Symantec Mail Security 5.0 or 6.0 for Microsoft Exchange, you see a message similar to the following:
"You have insufficient permission to access this application."
Solution:
This message can appear if you do not have appropriate permissions. You must have full access to the user interface, and you must be able to configure the program.
To modify user access to the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange user interface
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers.
- Right-click the user for which you need to change permissions, and then click Properties.
- In the Properties window, on the Members Of tab, add SMS MSE Admins.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
If the user already has appropriate access permissions, make sure that the user account is not part of the SMSMSE Viewers group. Read-only access is automatically enforced for members of this group.
Insufficient permissions with DCOM can also cause this problem. In some cases you can fix the problem by setting the default impersonation level from Authenticate to Identify. You must restart the computer when you change the impersonation level.
To change permission to DCOM on Windows 2003
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run
- In the Open box, type the following text:
dcomcnfg
- Press Enter.
- In the left pane, expand Component Services > Computers.
- Right-click My Computer > Properties.
- Click Default Properties.
- For Default Impersonation Level, click Identify.
To change permission to DCOM on Windows 2000
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
- In the Open box, type the following text:
dcomcnfg
- Press Enter
- Click Default Properties.
- For Default Impersonation Level, click Identify.
