EPOC.Fake.Joke

This is a joke program. It is not a virus, worm, or Trojan, and it is not detected as such. By design, Symantec Security Response does not provide virus definitions to detect joke programs. Such programs are not malicious, and detecting them only leads to unnecessary virus alerts which could cause you to believe that you have run or received a dangerous program when you have not.

If you have received or installed this program, and you do not want to run it, we suggest that you uninstall or delete it.

Type: Joke

technical details

This program only pretends to perform a malicious action. This program only runs on EPOC32 OS devices, specifically the Psion handheld device.

When installed, the program will display a dialog box asking if you wish to format your drive. Despite the user response, the program proceeds to simulate the formatting of the drive.

The drive is in no way formatted. This action will continue to occur until the program is removed.

If the program is already installed, to remove it, select File | List | List Open Files. Select fakeformat.opo and press Control + Shift + E. When prompted to kill the application, select Yes. Finally, in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove programs. Select FakeFormat, and then Remove.
