How to set up LiveUpdate for your Internet connection


This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, open it in Internet Explorer.

 

STEP 1
  Print this page

We suggest that you print this page before you start.

Expand each section by clicking the "+" before you actually print. PRINT

Because you must return to this page after you restart the computer, add this page to Favorites.

STEP 2
  Download and install the latest version of LiveUpdate
Run a tool to install the latest version of LiveUpdate. RUN IT NOW

STEP 3
  Adjust the LiveUpdate settings
I have a dial-up Internet connection

Do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
 
  • In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel.
  • In Windows 98/Me/2000, click Start > Settings > Control Panel

In the Control Panel window, double-click Symantec LiveUpdate.

On the FTP tab, click the option I want to use my Internet FTP settings.

On the HTTP tab, click the option I want to use my Internet HTTP settings.

On the ISP tab, click the option Internet Options in the Control Panel.

Click Apply, and then click OK.
I have a high-speed Internet connection

Do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
 
  • In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > Symantec LiveUpdate.
  • In Windows 98/Me/2000, click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Symantec LiveUpdate.

On the ISP tab, click Internet Options in the Control Panel.

Click Configure.

If you do not see the Windows Internet Properties dialog box, it is behind the LiveUpdate Properties dialog box. Click the LiveUpdate Properties dialog box and drag it out of the way so that you can see the Windows Internet Properties dialog box.

On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

Check Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.

Click OK, and then click OK again to close all open dialog boxes.
