Cannot download email with Norton AntiVirus email scanning enabled when using Norton AntiVirus 2006 or earlier version

STEP 2
  Update your Norton product

Many problems have been fixed in the latest Norton product update. If you have Norton AntiVirus 2006 installed in Windows XP with a valid subscription, then you are eligible for the latest product update. Click the button to update your Norton program. 
UPDATE NOW

If you purchased your product through your Internet service provider (ISP), please be sure that you have the latest version available from your ISP. Run LiveUpdate to download and install the most recent updates.

If you do not want to update your Norton product, go to the next step.

STEP 3
  Run LiveUpdate

Run a tool to start LiveUpdate. RUN IT NOW

STEP 4
  Choose your Email program
 
I have MS Outlook 2000

Open Outlook 2000.

On the Tools menu, click Options.

On the Mail Delivery tab, uncheck the Hang up when finished sending, receiving, or updating check box.

Click OK.

Close all running programs, and then restart the computer.

Resend email.
I have MS Outlook XP
1
Open Outlook XP.

On the Tools menu, click Options.

On the Mail Setup tab, uncheck the Hang up when finished with a manual Send/Receive check box.

Click OK.

Close all running programs, and then restart the computer.

Resend email.
 
I have Outlook Express 5.0 or 6.0

Open Outlook Express.

On the Tools menu, click Options.

On the Connection tab, uncheck the Hang up after sending and receiving check box.

Click OK.

Close all running programs, and then restart the computer.

Resend email.
STEP 5
  Remove Windows temporary files
 Run a tool to remove temporary files. RUN IT NOW
