Disconnect from the Internet and change your Outlook settings |

- Close your browser to disconnect from the Internet.

- If you are using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, then turn off the preview pane option, as follows:

- In Microsoft Outlook, on the View menu, uncheck Preview Pane.
- In Outlook Express, on the View menu, click Layout, and then uncheck Show Preview Pane.

- Exit any email programs that are open.

Disable Norton AntiVirus email scanning |
|

- Start Norton AntiVirus.
- If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.

- Click Options.
- If you then see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
|

- In the left pane, under Norton AntiVirus, click Email.
|

- In the right pane, uncheck Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.

- If you are prompted to verify that your email program is not running, then click OK.
|

Enable Auto-Protect |

- On the Norton AntiVirus menu, click Options.
|

- In the right pane, check Start Auto-Protect when Windows starts up (recommended) and Enable Auto-Protect (recommended).
- If both options are checked, then click OK, and then exit Norton AntiVirus.

Download and delete the infected email and then scan your computer |
|

- Start your email program, and then download your email.
If you have a great deal of unprocessed email, then this may take longer than usual. |

- Open the email program's Inbox, and then locate and delete the infected email message.

- When you have finished processing your email, close the program, and then run a full system scan.
|

- If Norton AntiVirus detects a virus, then allow Norton AntiVirus to repair the threat.
- Make a note of the name of the infection and search the Symantec Security Response online database for the threat write-up. Follow the removal instructions to remove the threat.

- When you are certain that your computer is virus-free, then go on to the next step.

Re-enable Norton AntiVirus email scanning |

- Start Norton AntiVirus.
- If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.

- Click Options.
- If you then see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

- In the left pane, under Norton AntiVirus, click Email.
|

- In the right pane, check Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.
