Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect is disabled on startup

You are about to run a program that only works in Internet Explorer (IE). If you have this page open in anyother Web browser, please start Internet Explorer and open this page in it.

 

STEP 1
  Print this document

We suggest that you print this document before you start.  PRINT  

STEP 2
  Restart the computer
Restart the computer.
STEP 3
  Run an online scan to check for viruses

Run an online virus scan. RUN IT NOW
 You may see a yellow bar at the top of the window with a message about ActiveX controls. If so, click the bar and then click Install ActiveX control. When a small box appears, click Install.

When the Security Check Web page opens, click GO.

Click Start under Virus Detection.

When you are asked, always click START, Next, or Install

Allow the scan to run. The scan can take thirty minutes or longer. Do not interrupt the scan.

When the scan finishes, if any problems were found, you will be given links to more information.
If no problems were found, return to this page and continue with STEP 4.
STEP 4
  Run the Symantec AutoFix tool
 Run a tool to check all Symantec processes and services.  RUN IT NOW
STEP 5
  Disable Auto-Protect

Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that product.

Click Options.
If you see a menu, then click Norton AntiVirus.

Under System, click Auto-Protect.

Under How to stay protected, uncheck Run at System Startup.

Click OK.

Restart the computer.
STEP 6
  Re-enable Auto-Protect

Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that product.

Click Options.
If you see a menu, then click Norton AntiVirus.

Under System, click Auto-Protect.

Under How to stay protected, check Run at System Startup.
5
Click OK.
6
Restart the computer.
