Note Windows 2000 and XP do not require user accounts to create a password when software is installed. However, the Windows Task Scheduler does require that users have a password for any scheduled events to run. If a scheduled scan is not configured with a user name and password, then the scan will not run.

STEP 1		Print the document
		We suggest that you print this document before you start. PRINT

STEP 2		Create a password for Windows Task Scheduler
		1 Restart the computer in Safe mode, and then log on as Administrator. 2 Create a password for each of your Windows user accounts, and then restart the computer in Normal mode. 3 Log on as the user that you want the scheduled task to run for. 4 On the Windows desktop, click Start > Programs (or All Programs) > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks. 5 Right-click the Norton AntiVirus task, and then select Properties. 6 Verify that your computer and user name is correctly entered in the Run as box. If not, supply the correct information. 7 Click Set password. 8 Enter the password for the user who was logged in to both windows, and then click OK. 9 Click OK. 10 Restart the computer. 11 Repeat these steps for each user that you created a password for.

STEP 3		Delete the Norton AntiVirus scan from the Windows Task Scheduler
		1 Verify that you are logged on as Computer Administrator. 2 On the Windows desktop, click Start > Programs (or All Programs) > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks. 3 Right-click the Norton AntiVirus task, and then click Delete. 4 Close the Windows Task Scheduler.

STEP 4		Create a scheduled scan in Norton AntiVirus
		1 Start Norton AntiVirus. If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program. 2 In the left pane, click Norton AntiVirus if it is listed. If it is not listed, go on to the next step. 3 In the left pane, click Scan for Viruses. 4 In the right pane, click the icon to the right of Scan my computer. 5 On the Schedule tab, fill in the Schedule Task, Start time, and Schedule Task Daily fields, and then click OK.

STEP 5		Add your Windows password to the Norton AntiVirus task in the Windows Task Scheduler
		1 On the Windows desktop, click Start > Programs (or All Programs) > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks. 2 Right-click the Norton AntiVirus task, and then select Properties. 3 Verify that your computer and user name is correctly entered in the Run as: box. If not, enter the correct information. 4 Click Set password. 5 Enter your password in the Password and Confirm Password fields, and then click OK. 6 Click OK to close the Properties window. 7 Restart the computer.
