Configuring Windows XP to clean boot

Because you must return to this page after you restart the computer, add this page to Favorites.

STEP 2
  Clean boot Windows XP with a Selective Startup

Click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type following text:
msconfig

Click OK.

When the System Configuration Utility appears, click the General tab.
 Under Selective Startup, make sure that "Load System Services" is the only item checked.
(You will be unable to unselect "Use Original BOOT.INI." This is OK).

Click the Services tab.

Select Hide all Microsoft Services.
Warning Warning Do not skip this line. You must hide the Microsoft Services before you go on to line 7.

Uncheck all the services that are still displayed on the Services tab.

Click Apply > OK.

Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart the computer.

Complete any troubleshooting or product installation.

STEP 3
  Restore your computer to its original settings

Click Start > Run.

In Run dialog box, type following text:
msconfig

Click OK.

When the System Configuration Utility appears, on the General tab, click Normal Startup.

Click OK.

Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart the computer.
