Removing and reinstalling Norton AntiVirus 2007

Back to previous solution

STEP 1
  Before you begin
  • We suggest that you print this page before you start. PRINT

  • This document is for Norton 2004 and 2005 products. If you have a different product, please go to our main document and choose the product that you have. Then follow the steps in that document.

  • If you have more than one Norton product, be sure to get the product key, CD or installation file for each product that you want to reinstall before running the Norton Removal Tool.

STEP 2
  Save your Product Key

NOTE Note If the product is currently not installed on your computer, check the Product Key at the back of the CD sleeve, or in the confirmation email that you received from Symantec for your download purchase. Once you write down the Product Key, go to STEP 3.

Your product key should have been saved in a text file in the following location:

C:/My Documents/Symantec/Norton Product Name_Key.txt

Locate this text file to be sure that you have your product key. You will need your product key later to reinstall your product.

If you do not have the text file or cannot locate it, you can find your product key on the CD sleeve that your product CD came in, or if you downloaded your product, in a confirmation email.

Once you have your product CD or installation file and the product key, continue with STEP 3 below.

If you cannot find your product key, CD or installation file, and you have Windows XP, then we suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of your product. UPGRADE

STEP 3
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

Warning Warning The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer. If you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases before you proceed.

1
Download the Norton Removal Tool for your version of Windows.

Save the file to the Windows desktop.

2
On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.
3
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.
