The AutoFix Tool found that critical Symantec startup files are disabled

Situation:
The AutoFix Tool found that one or more critical Symantec startup files were disabled by the Microsoft Configuration Utility.

Solution:
You can reenable these files automatically or manually.



Automatically reenable the files


Click the button to let Symantec automatically reenable the startup files






To manually reenable the files
To fix this problem, find the list of items that you wrote down when you ran the AutoFix Tool, and then follow the steps in this document. If you cannot find the list of items that you wrote down, go to the AutoFix Tool Web site and click "start the AutoFix Tool."

To enable critical Symantec startup files

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Run window, type the following, and click OK:

    msconfig
  3. In the System Configuration Utility, on the Startup tab, look for the item name(s) that you wrote down on the previous page.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • If you see all of the item names that you wrote down on the previous page, then check the items and go on to step 5.
    • If you see some of the item names that you wrote down on the previous page, then check those items and skip to the next section, "To enable critical Symantec services and virtual device drivers."
    • If you do not see any item name that you wrote down on the previous page, then skip to the next section, "To enable critical Symantec services and virtual device drivers."
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  6. Restart the computer when prompted.
The problem should be solved.

To enable critical Symantec services and virtual device drivers
  1. In the System Configuration Utility, do one of the following:
    • If you are using Window Me, then click the Static VxDs tab.
    • If you are using Windows XP, then click the Services tab.
  2. Check the item name or names that you wrote down on the previous page.
  3. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  4. Restart the computer when prompted.
