Uninstalling Norton Internet Security 2004 or Norton Personal Firewall 2004 using the SymSetup utility

Situation:
You want to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2004, Norton Internet Security Professional 2004, or Norton Personal Firewall 2004. A problem with user accounts prevents you from doing so.

This page describes how to uninstall the program using the SymSetup utility.

Solution:
The SymSetup utility is available as an .exe file and as a .zip file. Unless you need to transfer the file using a floppy disk, you should download the .exe file.

To download and run the SymSetup.exe file
When you run the SymSetup.exe file you must be in normal mode, not Safe mode.

  1. Download SymSetup.exe and save it to the Windows desktop.
  2. Double-click the downloaded SymSetup.exe file, click Remove All and follow any prompts.


To download and run the SymSetup.zip file
The SymSetup.zip file contains the SymSetup.exe file. You must use an unzip program to extract it. After it is extracted, when you run the SymSetup.exe file, you must be in normal mode, not Safe mode.
  1. Download SymSetup.zip and save it to the Windows desktop.
  2. Extract the SymSetup.exe file. (Most unzip programs will let you do this by double-clicking the .zip file.)

    Save the SymSetup.exe file to the Windows desktop.
  3. Double-click the downloaded SymSetup.exe file, click Remove All and follow any prompts.
