Disable unnecessary startup items |
- 1
- Close all open programs.
- 3
- In the Run dialog box, type the following text:
-
- 5
- When the System Configuration Utility appears, click the Startup tab.
- 6
- Scroll through the list. All items that have a check mark are programs that start when you start Windows.
- Uncheck all unnecessary startup items. Symantec products can easily be identified, as the words "Norton" or "Symantec" will appear in the path for that file. (You will have to use the scroll arrows at the bottom of the dialog box to see this.)
- If you are not sure which items to uncheck, your computer manufacturer or a consultant may be able to assist you in making the selection.
- 8
- Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart the computer.

Note |
If at any time you want to reverse the procedure, repeat lines 1 to 5, and in line 5, check the items that you want to load when Windows starts. | |
