A scheduled virus scan does not run under Windows 2000 or XP

STEP 1

STEP 2
  Select your operating system
I use Windows Vista
STEP 1
  Create a task to test the Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler

Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Task Scheduler.

In the User Account Control window, click Continue.

In the Action menu, click Create Basic Task...

Type the following in the Name field:
Calculator

Click Next.

Click When the computer starts.

Click Next.

Click Start a program.

Click Next.

Click Browse.

Browse to and click calc.exe and then click Open.

Click Next.

Clilck Finish.

Close the Task Scheduler window.

Restart the computer.
STEP 2
  Test the task
  • If the Calculator appears when Windows starts, the Task Scheduler is functioning correctly.
  • If the Calculator does not appear when Windows starts, contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft for assistance.
STEP 3
  Remove the task from the Task Scheduler after the test is complete

Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Task Scheduler.

In the User Account Control window, click Continue.

In the left pane, click Task Scheduler Library.

In the middle pane, click Calculator.

Press Delete.

Click Yes to confirm.

Close the Task Scheduler window.
I use Windows XP
STEP 1
  Create a task to test the Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks.
2
Double-click Add Scheduled Task.

Click Next when the Scheduled Task Wizard appears.
4
Click Calculator in the list of programs.
5
Click Next.
6
Click When I log on.
7
Click Next.
 You may be prompted to enter the user name and password for an account with Administrative rights.

Click Finish.

Close the Scheduled Tasks window.

Restart the computer.
STEP 2
  Test the task
  • If the Calculator appears when Windows starts, the Task Scheduler is functioning correctly.
  • If the Calculator does not appear when Windows starts, contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft for assistance.
STEP 3
  Remove the task from the Task Scheduler after the test is complete

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks.

Select the Calculator task, and then press Delete.

Close the Scheduled Tasks window.
I use Windows 2000
STEP 1
