How to extract files in Windows 2000

Symantec does not provide technical support for using the Expand utility. Symantec provides the following information as an aid to using the Expand utility. This information is a suggestion only, and is not intended to replace information from Microsoft.

 

            
  Extract files using the Expand utility

Click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type the following text:
command

Click OK.

In the command prompt, type the following text:
cd\winnt\system32

Press Enter.

Type the following text:
EXPAND <location of file and file name> <name of file to be extracted> <destination folder>
 
  • Use uppercase for all text on this command line.
  • Replace <location of file and file name> with the path to the cabinet file.
  • Replace <name of file to be extracted> with the name of the system file.
  • Replace <destination folder> with the path and folder that you want the file to be copied to.

Press Enter.
