How to configure Windows 98/Me for optimal use of system resources

STEP 1

   Remove Windows temporary files
 Run a tool to remove temporary files. RUN IT NOW
STEP 3
   Disable unnecessary startup items

Exit all open programs.

Click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type the following text:
msconfig

Click OK.

When the System Configuration Utility appears, click the Startup tab.

Scroll through the list. All items that have a check mark are programs that start when you start Windows. Uncheck all unnecessary startup items. Symantec products can easily be identified, as the words "Norton" or "Symantec" will appear in the path for that file. (You will have to use the scroll arrows at the bottom of the dialog box to see this.)
 If you are not sure which items to uncheck, your computer manufacturer or a consultant may be able to assist you in making the selection.

Click Apply > OK.

Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart the computer.
