How to obtain updated video card drivers

Situation:
You want to update the video drivers on your computer because your computer stops responding, you see messages about memory problems, or you see other symptoms of video driver conflicts.

To get updated video drivers, point your browser to the Web page for the video manufacturer.

How to identify which video card is installed
Follow the instructions for your operating system.

Windows NT/2000/XP
To identify the video card
  1. Right-click the Windows desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Click the Adaptor tab. The brand of video card that is installed appears in the Adapter Type section.

Windows 95/98/Me
To identify the video card
  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Click View devices by type.
  4. In the list that appears, double-click the Display Adaptor item.The brand of video card that is installed appears.

Another way to get updated video drivers is to go to http://download.cnet.com, choose Drivers under "Utilities & Drivers," then "Drivers," and then "Display & Video."

If you do not know the manufacturer

OEM video cards
If your video card came installed in your computer, the latest drivers should be available on the computer manufacturer's Web site. Visit the support site to download the latest drivers for your model. Here are the Web sites of some computer manufacturers:
FCC (Federal Communications Commission)
If you cannot determine the manufacturer of a video card, the following Web site allows you to search for the manufacturer using the FCC ID number on the printed circuit board of the video card:
