Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express sends duplicate emails when Norton AntiVirus email scanning is enabled
Situation:
Norton AntiVirus 2002 or 2003 (NAV) is installed and Email Scanning is enabled. When you enable the Automatic Send feature within Microsoft Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express 5.0/6.0 and send email, duplicate emails are sent.
Solution:
This problem has been reported to Symantec Technical Support, and we are attempting to reproduce the problem. The cause is unknown, and there is no solution at this time. We will continue to track this problem, and this document will be updated if new information or a solution is found.
As a workaround, you can either disable the automatic send feature within Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express, or you can disable the Outgoing email scanning feature of NAV email scanning.
To disable the automatic send feature in Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0/6.0:
- Start Outlook Express 5.0/6.0.
- Click the Tools menu, and the click Options.
- Click the Send tab.
- Uncheck Send messages immediately.
- Click OK.
To disable the automatic send feature in Outlook:
- Start Outlook.
- Click the Tools menu, and the click Options.
- Click the Mail Delivery tab.
- Uncheck Send messages immediately when connected.
- Click OK.
To disable outgoing email scanning in NAV:
- Exit any running email programs.
- Start NAV.
- Click Options.
- Click Email under the Internet section in the left pane.
- Uncheck Scan outgoing Email in the right pane.
- Click OK.
- Close NAV.
