Error: "Not enough server storage is available to process this command" after installing Norton AntiVirus for Windows NT/2000/XP

Situation:
After installing Norton AntiVirus for Windows NT/2000/XP, you see the error message "Not enough server storage is available to process this command," or "Not enough memory to complete transaction. Close some applications and retry." Clients cannot access network shares. An event log is created similar to the following:

Event ID : 2011
Source : Srv
Description: The server's configuration parameter "IRPStackSize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter.

Solution:
To solve this problem, increase IRPStackSize on the server to 25.

To increase IRPStackSize:

WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the system registry before making any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified. See the document How to Back Up the Windows 95/98/NT Registry before proceeding.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type regedit and then click OK.
  3. Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
  4. In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value .

NOTE: If the IRPStackSize value does not exist, the follow these steps to create it:
      1. In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane.
      2. Point to New, and then click DWord Value.
      3. Type IRPStackSize

IMPORTANT: Type IRPStackSize exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive.
  5. Change the Base to decimal.
  6. In the Value Data box, type 25 and then click OK.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.
  8. Restart the computer.
