Error: "Install Error:10. The LiveUpdate install failed because LiveUpdate was not able to register one of its components . . ."

STEP 1
  Print this page

Because you must return to this page after you restart the computer, add this page to Favorites.

STEP 2
  Make sure that you have administrative rights

Do the following, depending on your version of Windows:
 
  •  For Windows XP: Click Start > Programs or All Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
  •  For Windows 2000: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then double-click Administrative Tools, and double-click Computer Management

In the left pane, double-click Local Users and Groups.

Double-click Users.

In the right pane, double-click the user name that you used to log on.

On the Member of tab look for the entry Administrators. Do the following, depending on whether you see that entry or not:
 
  • If you see Administrators, then go to the section "What if this didn't work."
  • If you do not see Administrators in the list, then restart the computer and log on as administrator or as a user with administrative rights. Then continue with the remaining steps in this section.

Repeat steps 1-4.

On the Member of tab, click Add.

Click Advanced.

Click Find Now.

Click Administrators, and then click OK.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart the computer.
            
  Download and install the latest version of LiveUpdate
Run a tool to install the latest version of LiveUpdate. RUN IT NOW
