Message: "LU1860: LiveUpdate has detected a potential security compromise on your computer"

This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, open it in Internet Explorer.

NOTE Note If you run LiveUpdate on a corporate network, we suggest that you contact your network administrator or security officer before you take any action.

This is a LiveUpdate Security Warning. If you see this warning, you have three ways to deal with the hosts files:

Remove the entries

STEP 1
  Remove the entries

The LiveUpdate Security Warning dialog box should be open. Under "What do you
want to do," the default selection is "Remove these entries from the hosts files
(Recommended)." Click Perform this Action.

STEP 2
  Download and run Intelligent Updater
Run a tool to update your virus definitions. RUN IT NOW
STEP 3
  Scan your computer for infections

1
Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton Internet Security or Norton
SystemWorks, then start that program and click Norton AntiVirus.
2
In the left pane, click Scan for Viruses.
3
In the right pane, double-click Scan my computer.

Keep the entries and warn next time

If you change the drop-down to "Leave these entries in the hosts files (warn me about them later),"
LiveUpdate takes no action. You will see the same message the next time that you run LiveUpdate.

However, it is very likely that LiveUpdate will not be able to connect to the LiveUpdate server. In this
case, close the dialog box and run LiveUpdate again, but this time allow LiveUpdate to remove the
entries from the Hosts file.

Keep the entries and ignore them in the future

This is not recommended unless you have been told to do this by a network administrator.

If you change the drop-down to "Leave these entries in the hosts files (ignore them later)," LiveUpdate
does not remove the entries, and you will not see this warning message in the future.

It is possible that LiveUpdate will not be able to connect to the LiveUpdate server. In this case, contact
your network administrator.
