How the alert looks like?
The alert balloon looks like this:
If you click the balloon, the Windows Security Center appears. In the Virus Protection section of the Windows Security Center, you see "Norton AntiVirus reports that it is installed, but its status is unknown. . . " as shown here:
Why is this happening? | ||||
The Windows Security Center monitors and then reports on the status of security programs installed on your computer. Norton security products contain tamper protection features that prevent other programs, including Windows, from determining their status. This happens because the Windows Security Center sees that a Norton security program is there, but Windows cannot monitor the Norton program's status, it reports that your computer might be at risk. (In the Windows Security Center, the status for Virus Protection appears red and displays "CHECK STATUS.")
What can be done to correct this?
The Norton Windows Management Instrumentation Update allows the Windows Security Center to correctly identify the status of your Norton security products and gives you the option of configuring how Norton security products and the Windows Security Center alerts you.
