Uninstalling and reinstalling the Norton Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Update

This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, open it in Internet Explorer.

STEP 2
  Uninstalling and reinstalling the Norton WMI Update
I want to uninstall the Norton WMI Update 

When you uninstall all Norton programs, Norton WMI Update automatically uninstalls with the last product.

            
  Uninstall all Norton programs

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Control Panel.

Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.

Do one of the following, depending on the programs that you installed:
 
  • If Norton AntiVirus was installed as a part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then select Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security.
 
  • If Norton AntiVirus was installed by itself, select Norton AntiVirus

Click Remove, and follow the prompts.

Restart the computer if you are asked to do so.

Repeat steps 1 through 5 for any other Symantec products that are installed.

I want to reinstall the Norton WMI Update 

The Norton WMI update in included in Norton 2005 security products and will be reinstalled when you reinstall the 2005 products.

The Norton WMI update for Norton 2002/2003/2004 Security products will be reinstalled when you reinstall the products and run LiveUpdate.

STEP 1
  Reinstall your Norton programs

 Reinstall all of your Norton products from the original installation CDs or from downloaded files.


I have the product on a CD

Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.

Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
I downloaded the product from the Symantec Store

Find the product installation icon. Unless you saved it elsewhere, it is on the Windows desktop.
The look of the icon can vary. Here are some examples:

Double-click the installation icon.
Wait for the installation wizard to appear—it may take a minute or two.

Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

STEP 2
  Run LiveUpdate

Run a tool to start LiveUpdate. RUN IT NOW
