Error: "The installed version of LiveUpdate on this system is already up to date"

Situation:
When you try to reinstall LiveUpdate you see the message "The installed version of LiveUpdate on this system is already up to date."

Solution:
This happens if a leftover LiveUpdate file is blocking the installation.

You must delete this file before you can reinstall LiveUpdate.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me/2000, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
    • In Windows XP, click the Start button > My Computer.
  2. Browse to the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate
  3. In the list of files, select the Luinsdll.dll file as shown in this picture:

  4. Press the Delete key on your keyboard. Click Yes to confirm.
  5. Reinstall LiveUpdate.

Technical Information:
When it is run, the LiveUpdate installation file Lusetup.exe checks the version of the file Luinsdll.dll to determine whether the current version of LiveUpdate is installed. If Lusetup.exe finds this file, it will not install LiveUpdate. To work around this, you must delete the Luinsdll.dll file.
