Error: "LiveUpdate failed to initialize . . . " when running LiveUpdate
Situation:
When you run LiveUpdate, you see the error message "LiveUpdate failed to initialize. LiveUpdate could not find all of the files needed to run. LiveUpdate was either not installed correctly or some of its files were inadvertently deleted."
Solution:
This can happen if LiveUpdate has been damaged. To fix this, you must:
- Search for delete the file Luinsdll.dll
- Get the current version of LiveUpdate
Delete the file Luinsdll.dll
You must do this, or the reinstallation of LiveUpdate may fail.
Follow the instructions for your operating system:
To delete Luinsdll.dll in Windows 95/98/NT/2000
- Click Start > Find or Search > Files or Folders.
- Make sure that "Look in" is set to (C:) and that Include subfolders is checked.
- In the "Named" or "Search for..." box, type:
Luinsdll.dll
- Click Find Now or Search Now. The results are displayed.
- Select the file that is found, press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.
- Go to the next section.
To delete Luinsdll.dll in Windows XP
- Click Start > Search.
- Make sure that "Look in" is set to "All drives" or to (C:).
- Click the "Advanced Options" arrow.
- Make sure that "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders", and "Search subfolders" are all checked.
- Click All files and folders.
- In the "All or part of the file name box" type--or copy and paste--the following:
Luinsdll.dll
- Click Search. The results are displayed.
- Select the file that is found, press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.
- Go to the next section.
