What is LiveUpdate Notice?

To help users stay protected from online threats, Symantec is introducing LiveUpdate Notice. LiveUpdate Notice is a new feature service that works in the background inquiring Symantec’s servers for notifications that are relevant and will maximize the Norton customer’s security protection. This service enables Symantec to immediately and effectively notify Norton subscribers about:

• New Feature Updates
• Threat advisories or other educational advisories
• Promotional messages to trial and OEM customers

What are the benefits of LiveUpdate Notice?

LiveUpdate Notice sends messages directly onto eligible users’ PCs and is viewable from the system tray. Users are enabled to receive the latest online protection faster in real time.

What’s the difference between LiveUpdate Notice and Symantec LiveUpdate?

Symantec LiveUpdate is an application that downloads and installs security updates (such as spyware, firewall, or antivirus signature files) and software patches to help ensure your Norton products are updated with the latest security information to protect against emerging threats.

LiveUpdate Notice is an extension of Symantec LiveUpdate. It is a message notification service and does not directly deliver any feature updates or definitions. In a LiveUpdate Notice, users will receive instructions on how to retrieve the Norton product updates or new product releases, if eligible.

How do I get LiveUpdate Notice?

If you have a 2006-2007 Norton product, LiveUpdate Notice service automatically installs through LiveUpdate unless you elect to reject its installation. An invitation to install LiveUpdate Notice will appear every time LiveUpdate runs until LiveUpdate Notice is downloaded and installed. If you decide not to install the LiveUpdate Notice service during a LiveUpdate session, an option to download and install the LiveUpdate Notice will appear during your next LiveUpdate session. Unfortunately, if you have an older Norton product (from before 2006) you need to upgrade to a 2007 Norton product to enjoy this service.

What types of notifications will I receive with LiveUpdate Notice?

If you have an active subscription to a 2006 or 2007 Norton product, you will only receive notifications that are relevant to you -- such as availability of new product updates, new features, subscription updates, or threat advisories. For example, if you have a current subscription for Norton AntiVirus 2006, you will receive notification that Norton AntiVirus 2007 is available to you as part of your subscription.

Will I be charged for LiveUpdate Notice?

No, this service is provided to eligible Norton product customers with their product subscriptions.

Can I turn off LiveUpdate Notice?

LiveUpdate Notice is always running to make sure you receive immediate notices about new protection features and updates. You do have the option to reject the installation. You do have the option to opt-out from receiving advisories and product recommendations. You can also uninstall LiveUpdate Notice.

Am I required to install LiveUpdate Notice?

You have the option to reject installation of LiveUpdate Notice. An invitation to install LiveUpdate Notice will appear every time LiveUpdate runs until LiveUpdate Notice is downloaded and installed. If you decide not to install the LiveUpdate Notice service during a LiveUpdate session, an option to download and install LiveUpdate Notice will appear during your next LiveUpdate session. How do I view a LiveUpdate Notice notification?

When notifications are available, an icon will display in your system tray. Right-click on that icon to open LiveUpdate Notice’s viewer and review the notices delivered to you.

How often will a LiveUpdate Notice pop-up be displayed?

Each LiveUpdate Notice pop-up is scheduled to be displayed once a day, for 30 days, or until it is deleted.

How do I delete a notice pop-up?

Click 'Delete this Notice' link in the notice pop-up.

How will a notice pop-up be displayed to multiple users on the same computer?

Each user will receive a separate notice pop-up. Each user will have to delete the notice pop-up.

Once I have installed a product upgrade will the notice pop-up auto-delete?

No. You will have to delete the notice pop-up.

How do I scroll multiple notice pop-ups?

An arrow will be displayed at the bottom-right of the notice pop-up. Use the arrow to scroll through the active pop-ups.
