Blue screen after installing Norton Ghost 9.0 or Windows XP Service Pack 2

STEP 2
  Modify the Boot.ini file

Restart the computer.

Immediately after the Power On Self Test (POST), which is usually signified by a beep, press F8.

On the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Safe Mode, and then press Enter.

Select your Windows XP installation, and then press Enter.
If Windows XP is installed on a drive other than drive C, substitute the correct drive letter.

Log on to the computer.

Click Yes.

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.

In the Open box, type the following text:
cmd

Click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following commands:
c:
cd\
attrib -r -s -h boot.ini

Without closing the DOS window, click Start > Run.

In the Open box, type the following text:
notepad c:\boot.ini

Click OK.

In Notepad, under the [operating systems] heading, look for any occurrences of /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN and change them to /NOEXECUTE=OPTOUT

On the File menu, click Save.

Exit Notepad.

In the DOS window, at the command prompt, type the following command:
attrib +r +s +h boot.ini

Press Enter.

Close the DOS window.

Restart the computer.

When the computer is restarted, Windows XP should start normally.
