Destination drive does not start after performing Copy My Hard Drive operation in Norton Ghost

STEP 1
  Print this page

We suggest that you print this page before you start.

Expand each section by clicking the "+" before you print the page. PRINT

NOTE Note Symantec recommends the use of the fdisk /mbr command to refresh the Master Boot Record. Run the fdisk /mbr command only on the destination drive. The version of the fdisk /mbr command that works best for this issue is on the Windows 98 startup disk.
To learn how to create a Windows startup disk, read How to create a Windows startup disk.
STEP 2
Refresh the Master Boot Record (MBR)
1
Insert the Windows startup disk (or another startup disk that contains the fdisk /mbr command) into the floppy disk drive.
Warning Warning
The fdisk /mbr command refreshes the Master Boot Record (MBR). If the destination drive contains drive overlay information in the MBR section of the hard drive, the information will be destroyed and cannot be recovered. Other information on the destination drive will not be affected with the fdisk /mbr command.
2
At the command prompt, type the following command:

fdisk /mbr

3
Press Enter.
4
After the command finishes, remove the disk from the floppy disk drive.
5
Restart the computer.

If the problem continues, perform STEP 3.

STEP 3
Prepare the computer and run Copy My Hard Drive (Advanced)
1
Run CHKDSK on the source and destination hard drives to make sure that they are error-free.
For instructions, read How to run Microsoft CHKDSK from the command line.
2
Uninstall or disable any third-party disk management program that is running on the source drive.
For instructions, refer to the documents for that specific program or contact its vendor.
3
Disable Windows virtual memory.
For instructions, read one of the following documents:

4
Format the destination hard drive.
For instructions, refer to the destination drive documents or contact its vendor.
5
Run Copy My Hard Drive.

If the problem continues, perform STEP 4 and STEP 5.

STEP 4
Prepare the destination drive and create a temporary image of the source drive
1
Create a second partition on the destination drive.
Both partitions on the destination drive need to be large enough to contain the image of the source drive.
2
Do one of the following depending on your version of Norton Ghost to create an image of the source drive on the second partition of the destination drive:

STEP 5
Restore the temporary image onto the first partition
On the destination drive, restore an image of the second partition onto the first partition.
