Modify the Boot.ini file |

- Immediately after the Power On Self Test (POST), which is usually signified by a beep, press F8.

- On the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Safe Mode, and then press Enter.

- Select your Windows XP installation, and then press Enter.
- If Windows XP is installed on a drive other than drive C, substitute the correct drive letter.

- Log on to the computer.

- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.

- In the Open box, type the following text:
- cmd

- At the command prompt, type the following commands:
- c:
- cd\
- attrib -r -s -h boot.ini
|

- Without closing the DOS window, click Start > Run.

- In the Open box, type the following text:
- notepad c:\boot.ini
|

- In Notepad, under the [operating systems] heading, look for any occurrences of /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN and change them to /NOEXECUTE=OPTOUT

- On the File menu, click Save.

- In the DOS window, at the command prompt, type the following command:
- attrib +r +s +h boot.ini
|

When the computer is restarted, Windows XP should start normally.
