Situation:
You see the message "Error 986 Unable to get information for the specified partition. Error 986."
Solution:
The software reports this error when DOS-based terminate-and-stay-resident programs (TSRs) are loaded in memory. The TSRs are loaded from the Config.sys or Autoexec.bat files. One such TSR is the SUBST command. SUBST can be used to associate a path with a drive letter. This creates a "virtual drive" that is accessed as an additional local drive. The SUBST command can not be loaded when using Symantec imaging software.
This error message can also appear if there are multiple partition table errors.
To prevent this problem, remove or remark the SUBST line in your Config.sys or Autoexec.bat file. After you finish using the Symantec imaging software, you may replace or unremark this line.
