Error: "Catastrophic Failure" when running Norton Ghost 9.0 or Drive Image 7.0

STEP 2
  Clean boot the computer
 
STEP 3
  Rename the Clbcatq.dll file

Start Windows Explorer. Right-click Start > Explore.

Do one of the following:
 
  • In Windows 2000, browse to the C:\Winnt\System32 folder.
  • In Windows XP/2003, browse to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Right-click the Clbcatq.dll file, and then click Rename.

Rename the file to ~Clbcatq.dll.
Make sure that you include the tilde (~) at the start of the file name.

Restart the computer.
STEP 4
  Delete the COM3 registry key

In the next steps, you will edit the Windows registry. We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the registry keys that are specified. See How to back up the Windows registry for instructions.

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.

In the Open box, type regedt32 and then click OK.

In the Registry Editor, find and delete the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3

Exit the Registry Editor.

Click Start > Run.

In the Open box, type cmd and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing Enter after each line:
 cd %windir%
rmdir /s registration

Close the DOS Window.
STEP 5
  Reinstall the required .dll files

Right-click Start > Explore.

Do one of the following:
 
  • In Windows 2000, browse to the C:\Winnt\System32 folder.
  • In Windows XP/2003, browse to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Right-click the Ole32.dll file, and then choose Copy.

In the same folder, right-click the Regsvr32.exe file and choose Paste. Ensure the Regsvr32.exe file is selected.

Click OK when the RegSvr32 dialog box appears.

Right-click the Oleaut32.dll file, and then choose Copy.

In the same folder, right-click the Regsvr32.exe file and choose Paste.

Click OK when the RegSvr32 dialog box appears. Ensure the Regsvr32.exe file is selected.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

Click Next to proceed with reinstallation.

Click Finish.
