Error 1805: "Write Failed" while creating an image

Situation:
While creating an image of a drive or partition, you see error 1805: "Write Failed."

Solution:
Error 1805 can have many different causes. To find a solution, look for the section in this document that describes what you were doing when the error occurred.

Note: If you see this error message while using PQIDeploy or ImageCenter, be sure that you have updated the program to the latest version.

You were saving an image file to a network share
If you are saving an image file to a network share when this error occurs, it is most likely caused by insufficient rights to the network share. Verify that the user account that you are using to access the share has read and write access to that share.

This error can also be caused by a network connection problem. Verify that the network connection is functional before proceeding.

You were creating a compressed image
When you attempt to save an image without compression to a drive that is too small, the application warns you that there is insufficient space. However, if you use compression, because the total required space is not known until the drive is completely compressed, there is no warning of insufficient space. Instead, the process continues until there is no space left, and then the error occurs.

Following are some possible solutions:

You were saving to a partition that is protected by the Norton Protected Recycle Bin
If you are using Norton SystemWorks, it may be reserving space on your partition for the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin." This feature can make the free space reported under Windows appear much greater than the actual free space on the drive. If this is the case, right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin, and then click "Empty Norton Protected Files."

You were saving the image on the partition that is being imaged
This error will occur if you instruct the application to store the image file on the partition that is being imaged. To avoid the error, save the image file to a partition that is not being imaged.

You were saving an image to floppy disk
If you are attempting to span an image across multiple floppy disks, this error will occur if the image requires more than 50 floppy diskettes. There is no solution to this problem. The only way to avoid the error is to either use larger media (such as Zip or Jaz disk), or delete enough files from the partition so the image file will fit on fewer than 50 removable disks.

You were saving an image to other removable media
If the error occurs while you are trying to save an image to other removable media, such as a Zip or Jaz disk, the error can have more than one cause and solution:

Note: The information provided below is general and may not apply in all situations. Be sure to consult your computer's or drive manufacturer's documentation for information specific to your situation.
