Recovering a drive in Norton Ghost 12.0
This page tells how to restore lost information to a secondary drive. (A secondary drive is a drive other than the primary drive on which Windows is installed, typically drive C.)
For example, if the data has been lost from drive D, you can use Recover My Computer to restore drive D back to a point before the data was lost.
To recover a drive, you must have a "recovery point" that includes the drive to be recovered. (A recovery point is an image that is made at a specific point in time of one or more drives.) When you run an image-based backup, all of your files, folders, desktop settings, programs, and your operating system (Windows) are captured into a recovery point. You can then use that recovery point to restore individual files or folders, or your entire computer, restoring it back to the way it was at the time that the recovery point was created.
| Which recovery point should you select? |
If, for example, you need to set your computer back a week to when it functioned better, select the recovery point that you created one week ago. If you are not sure about the level of backup protection of a drive, you can use the Check Backup and Recovery Status feature.
 |
Note |
When you recover a drive, all current data on the drive that is recovered is replaced with the data that is contained in the latest recovery point. This means that if you made changes on the drive after the latest recovery point was created, those changes cannot be recovered. |
If you attempt to recover drive C by using the following steps, you will be asked for the Symantec Recovery Disk CD.
