======================================================================
1. INSTALLATION
======================================================================

Administrator privileges are required to install pcAnywhere. During
the installation process, you might be prompted to restart the
computer for the settings to take effect. After restarting the
computer, you must log on again using the same user credentials to
ensure proper functionality.

The installation of pcAnywhere 12.0.2 on a Windows Embedded or Windows
Embedded Point of Service device requires that Internet Explorer
be enabled.

Windows Me Installation Issues
======================================================================
In Windows Me, installing pcAnywhere into a directory with a long
path name might cause errors. To avoid errors, limit the
installation path to 225 characters or less.

Installing Symantec pcAnywhere in Windows 98/Me requires a restart
to complete the installation process. You will not be able to
uninstall the product until you restart the computer.

International Installation Issues
======================================================================
On double-byte Windows XP operating systems, the IME is disabled
during a Chat session or when the host user initiates a file transfer.
Using the special Hankaku-Zenkaku and Katakana-Hiragana keys on the
Japanese keyboard, the operator can switch from IME input to keyboard
kana input. In kana input mode, each key on the keyboard types in
Hiragana/Katakana, allowing for DBCS entry.

Symantec pcAnywhere File Locations in Windows
======================================================================
The pcAnywhere folder contains host files (.bhf), remote files
(.chf), caller files (.cif), log files, and other pcAnywhere
configuration files.

The location of these files varies by operating system:

- Windows 9x/Me:
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere

- Windows NT:
C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere

- Windows 2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\
pcAnywhere

- Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\
pcAnywhere

- Windows 2003:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\
pcAnywhere

If necessary, replace C with the drive in which the operating system
is installed.

Advertised Installations
======================================================================
Advertised installations are not supported with this release of
pcAnywhere.

Migrated Installations
======================================================================
The Remote Printer settings might not be retained when migrating a
previous installation to pcAnywhere 12.0.2.

The session keyboard and mouse control settings might not be retained
when migrating a previous installation to pcAnywhere 12.0.2.

When you migrate a previous installation to pcAnywhere 12.0.2,
the hosts that are set to launch with Windows might generate an error
message that states that the host service is already running.
If you encounter this error, uninstall pcAnywhere 12.0.2, restart the
system, and then reinstall pcAnywhere.

Integrity-checked packages of pcAnywhere 12.0.2 should not be
installed over previous installed versions. To ensure proper
installation, uninstall the previous installation of Symantec
pcAnywhere before installing the integrity-checked package of
pcAnywhere 12.0.2. Failure to do so might render pcAnywhere unusable.

======================================================================
2. PCANYWHERE FOR WINDOWS
======================================================================

Uninstalling pcAnywhere without restarting the system could result
in a loss of video if the current user account has been renamed.

Compatibility with Previous Versions
======================================================================
For enhanced security and performance and to reduce the size of the
installed footprint, pcAnywhere 12.0.2 is not backwards compatible
with pcAnywhere 5.0 for DOS or pcAnywhere 2.0 for Windows.

Host and remote objects created in pcAnywhere 12.0.2 are not compatible
with previous versions of pcAnywhere.

Compatibility with Operating Systems
======================================================================
Quick Deploy and Connect is not supported in Windows XP Home Edition
due to limitations of the operating system.

Blank passwords are not allowed when logging on to the host computer
during a remote management session in Windows XP Home Edition.

Windows 98, Me, and NT 4.0 do not support Symmetric RC4 128-bit
cipher strengths. All Symmetric AES cipher strengths are supported.

The pcAnywhere Auto-Start host installation requires Windows NT
authentication and is not supported on Windows 98 or Me operating
systems.

Windows Thin Hosts can not be discovered or connected to when Windows
Firewall is enabled on Windows XP Professional. Additionally, simple
file sharing must be turned off to allow for Windows Thin Host
discovery.

If you are running a Windows Thin Host as a service on a Windows PE
system, the Windows Thin Host window will not appear on the desktop.
This behavior is due to limitations within the Windows PE operating
system.

Session Behavior
======================================================================

Launching a remote while the pcAnywhere host is waiting on a CAPI
device could result in unexpected behavior.

Authenticating with a blank password using NT authentication could
result in unexpected behavior.

Clicking "End Session" while a file transfer is loading could result
in unintended consequences.

OLE Automation
======================================================================
For enhanced security, the support of callers via OLE automation has
been removed.

======================================================================
3. PCANYWHERE MOBILE
======================================================================
The installation of pcAnywhere Mobile on a Windows Mobile 5.0 device
will display an error message stating that the CAB file has not been
digitally signed. The install may also display a warning that the
application is not compatible with the latest version of this
operating system. These are compatibility issues only. pcAnywhere
Mobile will run on Windows Mobile 5.0 devices.

The user must uninstall pcAnywhere Mobile using ActiveSync or the
Remove Programs feature on the handheld device. Uninstalling
pcAnywhere Mobile from the desktop system will uninstall LiveUpdate
and the Start Menu items only.

The sending of High ASCII and DBCS characters is not supported
during connections with a Windows 98 host.

You can use the transcriber input method to configure and edit
connection items. However, during a remote control session, use of
the transcriber is not supported.

Capital letters will not be sent to the host when using the Letter
Recognizer. If capitalization is required, the user must use the
Keyboard.

When attempting to connect to a host running on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0,
the user must connect using Quick Connect or by entering the IP
address. Attempting to connect by using the computer name will fail.

In some instances, the PDA cursor might disappear from the remote
control window.

Modifications to the Remote Management > Command Prompt exclusion list
might result in unexpected behavior. Additionally, selecting the
Remote Management > Command Prompt option while connected to a
Windows 98/Me computer could cause the Windows Mobile device to go
into a non-responsive state.

In some instances, in Windows Mobile 5.0, pcAnywhere Mobile might not
be able to connect to a host computer by using the computer name. To
connect to the host, enter the host computer's IP address instead.

======================================================================
4. PCANYWHERE WEB REMOTE
======================================================================
Version 1.4.2 or later of the Sun Java Runtime Environment is
required to run pcAnywhere Web Remote. On Linux, the JRE must be
linked to the web browser in order to launch pcAnywhere Web Remote.
The Java logo will appear on the pcAnywhere Web Remote web page if the
JRE is linked properly to the web browser.

pcAnywhere Web Remote is supported on Linux if Mozilla 1.6 or later or
FireFox 1.0.3 or later is used. Previous versions of Mozilla and Konqueror
do not support the required version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment.

pcAnywhere Web Remote is supported on Mac operating systems on the
following web browsers:

- Safari 1.3.1 (or later) for Mac OS X 10.3.9
- Safari 2.0.2 (or later) for Mac OS X 10.4.3
- FireFox 1.5 (or later)

Some dialog boxes might not focus properly when multiple sessions are
running.

You might have inconsistent results when attempting to use the
transfer Clipboard feature.

pcAnywhere Web Remote does not support Symmetric encryption when
connecting to hosts from previous versions of pcAnywhere.

If multiple hosts with the same computer name appear in a Web Remote
discovery list, use the IP address to establish a session to ensure
that you connect to the intended host.

When pcAnywhere Web Remote is launched from a virtual machine that
is running Linux Novell Desktop 9.0 and connections are established
to hosts from pcAnywhere 11.0 and earlier, an intermittent loss of
video might occur.

Running pcAnywhere Web Remote from a virtual web server could result
in unexpected behavior.

======================================================================
5. PCANYWHERE LINUX HOST
======================================================================
SSH and Telnet must be enabled on the target system for Linux Host
deployment.

For Linux Host deployment to SuSe (9.x, 8.0 enterprise) and Red Hat
(ES/WS 4.0) systems, you must enable clear password authentication
in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. Because the deployment occurs inside
of SSH, clear-text credentials are not visible.

You might have inconsistent results when attempting to use the
transfer Clipboard feature.

Canceling a deployment of the Linux Host could cause pcAnywhere to go
into a temporary, non-responsive state.

Attempting to deploy the Linux Host to a system that has more then one
IP address (due to multiple network adapters) will result in a Login
Failure. To work around around this issue, verify that only one network
adapter is active on the target system at the time of deployment.

After you configure the Linux Host and are prompted to save the settings,
you should verify that the location to which you are saving the file
does not contain spaces in the path name. The Linux Host will not launch
if it is saved in a folder that contains a space character.

======================================================================
6. PCANYWHERE MAC HOST
======================================================================
SSH and Telnet must be enabled on the target system for Mac Host
deployment.

The ability to run a Mac Host while switching users on the Mac
operating system is not supported. If a Mac Host is launched by one
user and then followed by a switch in users, the resulting connection
to the waiting host will fail to display video. To ensure that the Mac
Host functions as expected, ensure that the user account that launches
the host remains active for the duration of the session.

If the Mac Host is deployed through SSH, the host process must be
killed manually in order to log off of the Mac computer.

After you configure the Mac Host and are prompted to save the settings,
you should verify that the location to which you are saving the file
does not contain spaces in the path name. The Mac Host will not launch
if it is saved in a folder that contains a space character.

======================================================================
7. PCANYWHERE CROSSPLATFORM
======================================================================
pcAnywhere CrossPlatform is supported on Windows, Linux, and Mac
operating systems. Version 1.4.2 or later of the Sun Java Runtime
Environment is required to run pcAnywhere CrossPlatform.

To install pcAnywhere CrossPlatform on Mac operating systems, the user
must be logged in with Root credentials.

The installation directory for pcAnywhere CrossPlatform can not be
modified. The location of the installed files varies by operating system.

- For Windows: C:\Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere CrossPlatform

- For Linux/Mac: /usr/local/lib/pcAnywhere

To run pcAnywhere CrossPlatform from the user interface on Linux, the
.JAR file must be associated with the Java executable. It can also
be launched from the command line.

pcAnywhere CrossPlatform does not support Symmetric encryption when
connecting to hosts from previous versions of pcAnywhere.

======================================================================
8. PCANYWHERE GATEWAY
======================================================================
If you are installing pcAnywhere Gateway on a computer that has a
pcAnywhere host running, you should cancel the host before you install
pcAnywhere Gateway.

You might receive the following error when installing pcAnywhere
Gateway on a Windows XP 64-bit operating system or a Windows 2003
operating system:

"1603: Error installing Windows Installer Engine. A file which needs
to be replaced may be held in use. Close all applications and try
again."

This error is the result of a Microsoft Installer limitation. If you
encounter this error, go to the Microsoft web site to download the
Microsoft Installer patch. After this patch is installed, the
pcAnywhere Gateway installation will complete without further errors.

When ending multiple sessions, verify that each session is closed
before proceeding to the next session.

If pcAnywhere Gateway performance becomes unstable, you should restart
the Gateway Service.

If pcAnywhere Gateway is configured to wait on non-default ports,
the pcAnywhere remotes that connect through the Gateway should be
configured to connect automatically. You can configure this option on
the Connection Info tab of the Remote Properties window.

======================================================================
9. SYMANTEC PACKAGER
======================================================================
If you deploy a package that you configured to run LiveUpdate after
installation, an error message may appear advising that the update can
only be run by an interactive user. To ensure proper installation,
LiveUpdate should be run by the user after the package installation
completes.
