Error: 7026 "Boot start or system start driver failed to load . . . gernuwa" when launching a pcAnywhere 11.0 host


Situation:
You have pcAnywhere (pcA) 11.0 installed. When you launch the pcA 11.0 Host, you receive the error message, "Boot start or system start driver failed to load . . . gernuwa."

Solution:
This problem is caused by a corrupted install of pcAnywhere 11.0. Follow the procedures in the order given.

Uninstall pcAnywhere 11.0
pcAnywhere 11.0 must be uninstalled from the Add/Remove Programs section in Windows. For instructions on this, read the document How to uninstall pcAnywhere 11.0.

Edit the Registry


WARNING: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the system registry before making any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Please make sure you modify only the keys specified. Please see the document How to back up the Windows registry before proceeding. This will create a copy of your current registry. This can be used to restore Windows to its current state, if necessary.
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type regedit in the Open box.
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the Registry Editor window, find the key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
  5. In the left pane, click Gernuwa.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.
  8. Restart the computer.

Install pcAnywhere 11.0
