pcAnywhere 11.0.1 elevation of privileges patch

Situation:
When the pcAnywhere Host is set to run as a service and the "Command to execute after connection" feature is used, the command specified is launched with system level privileges.

Solution:


Before you begin: This patch applies to the following Windows operating systems only: This patch is not necessary for Windows 98 or Windows ME.


This patch ensures all commands launched through the "Command to execute after connection" feature are launched within the scope of the logged in user's access rights.

To apply this patch
  1. Click and download 11.0.1_Sec.zip to an empty folder on your computer.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file.
  3. Close pcAnywhere and cancel the pcAnywhere host, if it is running.
  4. Right-click Start > Explore.
  5. Go to the pcAnywhere installation folder,

    \Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere
    If pcAnywhere was installed to a different folder, navigate to that location.
  6. Search for awhseq.dll.
  7. Rename awhseq.dll to awhseq.old.
  8. Copy the downloaded awhseq.dll file into this folder.
  9. Restart pcAnywhere.
