How to print from a DOS-based program on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 host to a printer on the remote computer
Situation:
You have connected to a Windows NT or Windows 2000 host, and would like to know how to print from a DOS-based application on the host to the printer connected to the remote computer.
Solution:
It is possible to print from most DOS applications from a pcAnywhere host on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000. However, this is not a supported capability and it may not work for a few applications.
To print from a DOS application running on a Window NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 host
- On the host computer (Windows NT/2000), open the Windows Control Panel.
- Double-click the Printers icon.
- Right-click the printer, and then click Properties.
- Click Ports.
- Change the port to PCAW:.
- Click Sharing.
- Click Shared, and then set a Share name.
- Close the printer's Properties.
- Open the Network Neighborhood control panel icon.
- Click Identification and note the Computer Name.
- From a DOS prompt, type the following:
net use lpt1: \\<computer name (see: step 10)>\<printer share name (see: step 7)> /persistent:yes [Enter]
For a computer with the name of WORK, and a printer with a share name of PCA, the line would look like this:
net use lpt1: \\WORK\PCA /persistent:yes
This establishes a permanent capture of the LPT1: printer port to the shared pcANYWHERE printer.
To stop the capture, type net use lpt1: /delete and press Enter.
