Question/Issue:
Customers using Microsoft's Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS 2003) and Ghost Solution Suite causes SMS to report an invalid file when SMS inventories our ~0000.exe file, due to the Modified date containing the year 1601 (month/day will differ). This file is located by default at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Symantec\Ghost\AutoInstall\Installed Apps\,
Symptoms:
When the SMS Software Inventory component reads our file ~0000.exe, it reports that there is an invalid file on the system. There have been no reports of this causing issues with Ghost Solution Suite or AutoInstall itself.
Cause:
File ~0000.exe which is a normal AutoInstall file, is created whenever an AI package is installed on a client machine. The erroneous modified date of 1601 only appears when the package is either deployed manually (by double-clicking the AI executable) or deployed through the Console using the Transfer Files/Execute Command task. The modified date is listed normally when the package is deployed with the "Deploy AI Package" task.
Solution:
There are updated AutoInstall file available that prevent this from happening. Please contact Symantec Technical Support for Ghost Solution Suite to obtain those files. Alternatively the file ~0000.exe can be skipped by SMS or the date stamp can be changed by modifying the properties of the individual file.
Technical Information:
This issue was caused by the improper conversion of the DOS date/time stamp to Win32 file time for the file ~0000.exe.
