System clock resets to 2100

Situation:
You want to know why the system clock resets to 100 years in the future when the computer is left on overnight.

Solution:
This is usually due to a problem in the computer's BIOS, and is typically seen after the end of the month. If you leave the computer on overnight, and then change the system date, some older BIOS chips will change the date forward by 100 years. This has been seen on very early versions of the Phoenix Pentium BIOS, and on some Compaq systems. Check with your BIOS manufacturer for more information.
