Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh 10.1 is compatible with the new Intel-based Macintosh computers. Symantec released the 10.1 update on January 24, 2006. If you have a new Intel-based Macintosh computer, install Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh 10.0 and then run LiveUpdate to update to the latest version. About enterprise products On January 30, 2006, Symantec released the Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh 10.1 update through LiveUpdate. The 10.1 update is for compatibility with the new Intel-based Macintosh computers. Symantec Administration Client is compatible with the new Intel-based Macintosh computers.

 

Norton Personal Firewall 3.x, Norton Internet Security 3.x, Norton SystemWorks, and Norton Utilities are designed for PowerPC-based Macintosh computers. They do not function on Intel-based Macintosh computers, including the new iMac and MacBook.

While they are not supported by Symantec Technical Support, some of the Symantec products for Macintosh have limited features when installed on the new Intel-based Macintosh computers.

 

Norton AntiVirus 10.0.x that is installed on Intel-based Macintosh computers

• Norton AntiVirus 10.0.x starts with no errors.
• Auto-Protect does not work.
• Scan on mount does not work.
• Scheduled scans and manual scans work.
• LiveUpdate works.

To fix all these problems with Norton AntiVirus 10.0.x on an Intel-based Macintosh, run LiveUpdate to update to version 10.1.

 

Norton Personal Firewall 3.x that is installed on Intel-based Macintosh computers

• When you start Norton Personal Firewall 3.0–3.1, an error message appears and the program quits.

 

Norton Internet Security 3.x that is installed on Intel-based Macintosh computers

• When you start Norton Personal Firewall 3.x, an error message appears and the program quits.
• Norton Privacy Control does not start and displays an alert every time that you restart the computer.

Norton Utilities 8.x that is installed on Intel-based Macintosh computers

• Norton Utilities 8.x starts, but volumes do not appear.
• FileSaver does not work.
• You can start the computer from the Norton Utilities 8.x CD, but this is not recommended.
• The operating system on the CD is Mac OS X 10.3.
• Errors may occur when scanning disks.

 

Norton SystemWorks 3.x that is installed on Intel-based Macintosh computers

• Norton SystemWorks 3.x will start.
• You can start the computer from the Norton SystemWorks 3.x CD, but this is not recommended.
• The operating system on the CD is Mac OS X 10.3.
• Errors may occur when scanning disks with Norton Utilities 8.x.
• FileSaver does not work.
