Wipe Info has several functions: Wipe File, Wipe Disk, and Wipe Unused Space.
- Wipe File is used to permanently delete a single file or folder of files. It is important to note that Wipe Info, while asking you if you want to do so, will wipe all files in a folder and any subfolders within the selected folder.
- Wipe Disk is used to wipe the entire contents of a volume. This option would be used when you want to remove all traces of data but do not wish to perform a low-level reformat on the volume.
- Wipe Unused Space is used to remove all traces of previously deleted files on a volume. This does not touch the currently active data on the drive.
If you attempt to wipe the boot volume, you see a "files in use" message. The only way to keep this from happening is to boot from the Norton Utilities for Macintosh CD or a secondary volume, and then wipe the drive by using the copy of Wipe Info that is stored on the CD or secondary volume.
 |
Note |
To use Wipe Info in Norton Utilities 7.0.x or Norton SystemWorks 2.0.x for Mac OS X, boot from the CD. When you boot from the CD, you boot into Mac OS 9.2 and use the Norton Utilities 6.0.3 version of Wipe Info. Wipe Info is located in the Norton Tools folder, which is in the Norton Utilities or Norton SystemWorks folder on the CD. |
