Apple has released the fifth update to Mac OS X, Apple's next generation operating system. As with previous updates, Mac OS X 10.5 offers new features and underlying technologies for users and developers; similarly, these new technologies often disrupt 3rd party software products. Given the highly technical nature of our Norton products for Mac, we are no exception.

We recommend that you run LiveUpdate before upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5, so that you have the latest updates for the Norton products.

Currently, the following products are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (code-named Leopard):

• Norton Internet Security 4.0 for Macintosh
• Norton Confidential for Macintosh
• Norton AntiVirus 11.0 for Macintosh
• Norton AntiVirus 10.x.x for Macintosh 
  For full compatibility with OS X 10.5, Symantec recommends that you upgrade to Norton AntiVirus 11 for Macintosh.
  

Here is a list of our current products and their compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5:

Norton Internet Security 4.0 Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton Internet Security 4.0 for Macintosh is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.5. 

Norton AntiVirus 11 on Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton AntiVirus 11 for Macintosh is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.5. 

Norton Confidential for Macintosh on Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton Confidential 1.2 for Macintosh is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.
• After you install Mac OS X 10.5, run LiveUpdate until there are no more updates available.
• Run LiveUpdate before installing any other Norton products, such as Norton AntiVirus 11.0 for Macintosh.

Norton AntiVirus 10.x on Mac OS X 10.5

• While some features of Norton AntiVirus 10.x are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5, only Norton AntiVirus 11 is supported on Mac OS X 10.5.  Symantec recommends that you upgrade to Norton AntiVirus 11 for full compatibility.
• If you encounter any problems with running LiveUpdate and downloading the virus definitions, install the latest version of LiveUpdate. Read, Installing the latest version of LiveUpdate on a Macintosh.

Norton Personal Firewall 3.x on Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton Personal Firewall 3.x is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.
• Not compatible with Intel based Macintosh computers.

Norton Internet Security 3.x on Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton Internet Security 3.x is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.
• Not compatible with Intel based Macintosh computers.

Norton Utilities 8.x on Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton Utilities 8.x is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.
• Not compatible with Intel based Macintosh computers.

Norton SystemWorks 3.x on Mac OS X 10.5

• Norton SystemWorks 3.x is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.
• Not compatible with Intel based Macintosh computers.
