How to create a bootable CD for a Symantec Macintosh product in Mac OS X
This document provides steps on how to create a bootable Mac OS 9 CD in Mac OS X. At present, there is no Apple-supported method for creating a Mac OS X bootable CD. If you have a new 12" or 17" G4 PowerBook, these models cannot boot from Mac OS 9. Please read Apple no longer supports booting from Mac OS 9 on computers released after December 2002.

Note |
Symantec provides this information to you as a service and does not directly support the creation of a bootable CD to work with your computer. If you have questions or problems when you create a bootable CD, please refer to the provider of the CD mastering software that you use. |
| Requirements to create a bootable CD for your Macintosh with your Symantec software on it |
- A CD-R or CD-RW drive
- Mac OS X
If you do not have Mac OS X, please read How to create a bootable CD for a Symantec Macintosh product in Mac OS 8.1–9.2.2.
- The original "Mac OS 9 Install" CD that came with your Macintosh
If you have one of the newest Macintosh computers, it may not have a "Mac OS 9 Install" CD. If not, you must use a Mac OS 9 CD that will boot your computer. If your computer was purchased before 2003 and did not come with a Mac OS 9 Install CD, you may order one from Apple.
- Your Symantec software for Macintosh, such as Norton Utilities or Norton SystemWorks
- A blank, recordable CD
